Description:

The United Way is an organization of volunteers who work to provide important services to the less fortunate, the youth, and the aged of the community through a wide range of agencies. The movement began over a hundred years ago in Denver by four clergymen and has grown to encompass nearly every community in the United States. There are over 2100 United Ways in the United States and the movement is now spreading all over the world. Although the name has changed several times from Community Chest to United Community Fund to The United Way in 1973, the original purpose has remained the primary reason for our continued existence.

United Way of Coastal Georgia performs two major functions: 1. Raises money through voluntary contributions at a low cost through one annual campaign. 2. Distributes this money to various non-profit, human care agencies whose primary purposes are to improve the quality of life for those in need in the community.
